According to INDEC's preliminary data for the Monthly Industrial Estimate
(EMI, Estimador Mensual
Industrial), seasonally adjusted activity in September registered a
decline of 1.0% over August
and a 0.9% drop in non-seasonally adjusted terms.
When compared to the same
month in 2001, seasonally adjusted manufacturing production in August
2002 exhibited a decline of 6.9% and non-seasonally adjusted output a
decrease of 4.5%.
When comparing the third quarter 2002 with the second
quarter industrial production rose 1.6% in seasonally adjusted terms.
From a sectoral standpoint, the industrial branches that exhibited
the best performance in September 2002 compared to the same period in 2001
were textiles, automobile tires and oils. On the downside with
the lowest output levels were observed in publishing and printing, white
meats and sythetic and artificial fibres.
