According to the National Statistical Institute
(INDEC, Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas:
Preliminary data for the third quarter indicate that the Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) declined 10.1% over the same quarter last year.
Global demand dropped off 13.6% for the same period driven by a 37.5%
decline in investment and a 2.7% rise in exports. Meanwhile, private
consumption remained in negative territory with a 13.1% contraction, well
below the 6.8% drop in public consumption.

In particular, third quarter data show that the goods producing sectors
experienced a 10.8% drop in activity over the same quarter last year,
which was determined principally by declines in the manufacturing industry
(- 7.2%) and the construction sector (- 36.4%).
In turn, the service producing sectors registered an 8.1% contraction over
the same quarter in 2001.
