The numbers in detail

 

The open unemployment rate reached 7.3% in August, slightly below the July figure (7.5%) and above the rate observed in August last year (6.2%).  The data are from the IBGE Monthly Employment  Survey taken in the six major metropolitan areas ( Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Porto Alegre).

The results show a slight increase in the number of persons economically (0.2%) and non-economically active (0.3%) compared to the previous month.  In comparison to August last year the variations were 3.7% and 0.3% respectively.

The open unemployment rate, free of seasonal factors, dropped from 7.4% in July to 7.2% in August of this year.
