The Numbers in Detail

 

Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) reports:

That the Broad National Consumer Price Index (Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA) rose 2.10% in December, which was 0.92 percentage points below the 3.02% increase in November.  The sub-items with that registered a small increase compared to the previous month were food, fuels and cooking gas, while medication and cigarettes prices experienced stronger hikes.  As a result, the annual variation for inflation in 2002 reached 12.53%:  2.94% in the first and 9.32% in the second semester.
