The National Statistical Institute (INE, Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas) reports:

In the quarter from July to September 2002, the national open unemployment rate reached 9.7%.  This represents a decline of 0.4 percentage points when compared to the same period last year and a 0.1 percentage point increase over the preceding moving quarter.
