The numbers in detail

In July, the industrial sector expanded at an annual rate of 1.9% in real terms, owing to an increase in three of the four sub-sectors, which constitute the sector.

According to seasonally adjusted data, the industrial sector added 0.02% over the preceding month.  In the first seven month, the industrial sector dropped 0.5% over the same period last year.

The manufacturing industry expanded by 1.7%, as the domestic industry grew by 2.2%, partially offset by a 4.4% decline in the maquiladora industry.

Construction grew 2.0% and the electricity, gas and water sector added 6.1% compared to July 2001.

The only sector that registered negative growth was mining, which declined 1.6% over the same month last year.  The contraction was driven by a decline in the oil industry (--1.9% year-on-year) and non-oil mining (-1.0% yoy).
