Incumbent Noboa Continues to Lead in Polls for Upcoming Election |

In the race for the in the 20 October
presidential elections incumbent President Alvaro Noboa remains ahead of the
other eleven candidates. However, Banana magnate Alvaro Noboa, one of the
Andean nation's richest man but loser in a previous bid for the presidency
in 1998 cannot feel too comfortable amid high levels of voter indecision.
According to recent polls, the candidate for the centre-left Democratic Left
party, Rodrigo Borja, who governed the country from 1988 to 1992, continues
to gain support among voters. If this trend continues, Noboa, who is still
leading by almost four percentage points, may face a two-way runoff election
on 24 November. |
